A global leader in fire testing, inspection and certification, Warringtonfire, an Element Company, is set to showcase live fire door demonstrations at The Fire Safety and Security Event at the NEC between Tuesday 30 April and Thursday 2 May 24.
The presentations will be performed by Warringtonfire’s fire door testing experts, with the company itself being an accredited provider of fire door testing.
Warringtonfire, and its parent company, Element Materials Technology and sister brand, BM TRADA, will be presenting at stand 4/P2, where visitors will be able to watch a walkthrough on how to correctly install a fire door. The installation run-throughs will include fitting the frame, architraves and ironmongery, alongside witnessing live PAS 24 security tests on the stand. The demonstrations begin at 11am on each day of the show, when Warringtonfire will be exhibiting how to correctly install a fire door.
There is a legal requirement for manufacturers of fire doors to demonstrate the ability of their products to resist the passage and spread of fire. However, Warringtonfire is also warning delegates that if fire doors are not properly installed, their fire resistance capabilities can be seriously compromised.
For this reason, Warringtonfire and BM TRADA representatives will also be highlighting third-party installer certification schemes, which have been designed to provide reassurance to specifiers, contractors and end users that the product they have chosen has been installed correctly and should perform as intended. This will be demonstrated through showing the correct fire door installation procedure, as set out by the FIRAS certification scheme.
Peter Barker, Technical Governance Manager from Warringtonfire said: “The Fire Safety and Security Event is one we always look out for in the calendar, and we’re excited to be highlighting just some of our offerings at our stand.
“The correct installation of a fire door is vital to maintaining compliance whilst also offering the full protection in case of an emergency. If you’re at the show we’ll also be performing and example PAS 24 annex assessment, explaining how we test to make sure doors are secure and safe from outside attack. It will be one not to be missed, so come and say hello to our team if you get the chance.”
As well as Warringtonfire’s live demos, at the Security Event, the Element Materials Technology team will present and illustrate the PAS 24 tests including Annex A (cylinder snapping), B.4.4.2 manual infill removal and B.4.4.4 cutting test at 2pm every day.
The Annex A test involves a manual attack on the locking hardware. This is done through utilising small tools, plus a crowbar, alongside molegrips. The door is then tested through a secondary attack using the same kit but with the addition of self-cutting traction screws.
The B.4.4.2 manual infill removal and B.4.4.4 cutting test is a manual attack test, during which chisels and brick bolsters are used to remove the glazing or infill panel for three minutes. Then, a cutting test is performed using tools including chisels and a craft knife to cut through the material of the door leaf for three minutes. The door is certified if the time limit passes without entry being achieved.
The Element, Warringtonfire and BM TRADA teams will be at stand 4/P2 across all three days of the show in Birmingham.
