NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering) invites local professionals, business owners, industry leaders and Hereford’s A-level and HE students to its transformative Future of Work Conference on Thursday, 16th May 2024.

This free conference promises to be an educational event, offering access to invaluable discussions on how evolving trends are shaping our work environments and the role each of us plays in the process.

The Future of Work Conference will bring together thought leaders, industry experts, and innovative minds to explore the intersection of technology, human skills, equality, diversity, inclusion, and workplace innovation. At the inaugural event, attendees will gain invaluable insights into how these factors are converging to redefine the future of work, particularly within Herefordshire and beyond.

"We are at a pivotal juncture in the evolution of the workplace, where the integration of innovative technologies, essential human skills, and inclusive cultures is critical," says James Newby, President and Chief Officer, NMITE. "This conference is a unique opportunity to engage with these transformative dynamics, ensuring that we in Herefordshire are prepared to thrive in the future of work."

The conference encompasses four sessions:

  • Session 1: Exploring how technologies are shaping the future of work.
  • Session 2: Understanding the vital role of human skills in a tech-driven world.
  • Session 3: Discussing the significance of EDI and workplace innovation for future readiness.
  • Session 4: Preparing Herefordshire's approach to future skills and its implications for local and global workforces.

"I am inspired to organise the first Future of Work Conference in Herefordshire; our conference isn't just about discussing the future, it's also about shaping an equitable, inclusive and accessible future together whilst empowering our community to thrive amidst evolving landscapes and opportunities." Says Lahari Parchuri, Future of Work Hub Development Lead, NMITE

The exceptional calibre of our already confirmed speakers underscores the high-quality insights and discussions attendees can expect, setting the stage for a truly impactful Future of Work Conference:

Dave Collins, Grey Matters UK: Grey Matters is renowned for its dedication to enhancing leadership and management through psychological insights and practical solutions. Dave, an expert in developing soft skills within tech-driven contexts, will offer his insights during Session 2.

Henry Hyde Thompson, Chairman of Anglo Scientific: Henry is a Scientist Entrepreneur and was a Research Fellow at Imperial College and pioneered the machine learning technique known as ‘stochastic gradient descent’ now used in nearly all Deep Learning systems. Henry was the first to apply it to speech recognition, and went on to develop, in partnership with the UK MOD’s Malvern research lab, one of the world’s first large vocabulary speech recognition systems, and a company, Speech Machines, that provides speech to text services for creating medical records. With his extensive experience and leadership, Henry will contribute a strategic perspective on embracing innovation and skills development.

“I am a great believer in technology, and how it can improve everyone’s life - and life / work balance. I look forward to discussing the impact of AI and robotics on the Future of Work, both at the global level and here in Herefordshire” says Henry Hyde Thompson, Chairman of Anglo Scientific.
