Salamander Pumps unveils new Water Conditioners accessory range for enhanced water quality

Salamander Pumps, one the UK’s leading manufacturers of water boosting solutions, has expanded its accessory line with the launch of three new water conditioners.

Designed to efficiently treat hard water throughout the entire household these water conditioners will limit scale build up and prolong the life of water using applications and heating systems.

With almost 80% of UK homes experiencing hard water, Salamander Pumps’ water conditioners have been introduced to address the growing demand for efficient water treatment solutions to overcome the increased energy consumption, running costs and maintenance associated with hard water.

Hard water, characterised by elevated levels of calcium and magnesium, causes disruptions to plumbing systems when the temperature or pH levels rise. During this process, dissolved minerals convert into solid carbonate, leading to the accumulation of deposits in pipes, pumps, and fixtures. Consequently, this results in increased costs and maintenance as appliances become less efficient due to scale build up.

Operating without the need of a power supply, Salamander Pumps' new water conditioners are the perfect solution to hard water issues as they provide options for whole house and single outlet water supply treatment. These conditioners effectively prohibit scale build-up, which not only protects the lifespan of fixtures already installed, but they also ensure the efficient running of appliances by optimising heat transfer in appliances such as boilers and kettles. The Carbon Trust discovered that the presence of a 1mm layer of limescale results in a 7% rise in energy consumption for a boiler to achieve the equivalent heating output of a limescale-free boiler.

Notably, the water conditioners are both cost-effective and environmentally friendly, foregoing the use of chemicals or salt in their operation. The inline design facilitates easy installation, and their maintenance-free capability, coupled with zero ongoing running costs, adds to an economical and efficient solution for water treatment needs.

With a warranty duration of 10 years, the conditioners guarantee a long-term performance, ensuring compliance with Part L Building Regulations and reinforcing their reliability in delivering safe and treated water.

How do they work?

Salamander Pumps’ water conditioners use a non-sacrificial lead-free alloy core with a special surface. The core is predominantly a Copper/Zinc alloy, but what makes it unique is the semi-precious content, which contains three additional metals.

When the water conditioners are installed, nothing is added or removed. As water passes over the core a catalytic reaction takes place, causing carbonic acid to precipitate. The reduction of this acidic component increases the pH of the solution, but only temporarily.

This temporary pH increase triggers the formation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), primarily in its aragonite state—the key component of limescale. With no noticeable change in pH readings, catalytic treated water has an increased capacity for calcium and carbon, preventing scale deposition and, in many cases, gradually absorbing pre-existing scale. The end result is chemical-free protection against lime scale build up in hard water areas.

Richard Ballard, Product Manager at Salamander Pumps said: “With a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and cost savings, we believe our customers will experience the transformative benefits of utilising our water conditioners to reduce the impact of hard water in the home.

“Scale is not only unsightly, but it can lead to rises in energy consumption, as well as increased running and maintenance costs. Ensuring the longevity of household appliances and the overall well-being of water systems will reduce energy costs and the need to replace fixtures within the home.

“As a company, we are committed to innovation and creating products to not only benefit our customers, but also create products that our team can be proud of. Our water conditioners are a testament to that. Almost 80% of homes in the UK have hard water, we aim to help these homeowners with a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly, and effective solution to hard water.”
