The second stage of Fruit Market, the unique city centre townhouse development in Nottingham’s bustling Sneinton Market, has received planning approval.
Delivered by Blueprint, the sustainable homes specialists, the second phase of the development will consist of 26 new homes clustered around two communal gardens providing residents with large, tranquil outdoor spaces whilst still being in the heart of the City.
Phase one of Fruit Market, which is nearing completion, recently won a prestigious Housing Design Award for its design quality and innovation. Continuing to work with Letts Wheeler Architects, this architectural integrity has been maintained in the second phase designs, including subtle variations in the external appearance of homes not often seen in new housing.
The neighbourhood will continue to follow Blueprint’s sustainability ethos. The scheme is fully gas-free with residents being provided with individual air-source heat pumps to heat their homes and provide hot water. The high levels of thermal insulation and underfloor heating included in the Fruit Market designs are an excellent fit for heat pump technology, which is widely seen as the future of home heating. The central location will also allow residents to be within walking distance of main amenities and public transport, reducing the need for a car.
Alec Hamlin, development manager at Blueprint said: “Fruit Market offers an alternative to typical city centre housing development in Nottingham, where most new homes are high-rise, student accommodation or built-to-rent, by bringing family housing into the city centre.
“Sneinton Market is such a thriving area of Nottingham and we’re excited to play our part in its continued regeneration. We’re looking forward to bringing this next phase of development to the area, creating a new neighbourhood in what is already a great place to live.”
Blueprint is supported by igloo Regeneration and the Fruit Market development will follow igloo’s trusted Footprint approach, a United Nations-recognised sustainable investment methodology, ensuring that each of its schemes is highly sustainable and designed to positively impact people’s well-being and the planet, creating great places for people to enjoy, both now and in the future.
