Nationwide placemaker Muse, in partnership with Housing and Regeneration Association Poplar HARCA, has celebrated progress on its transformational development Stroudley Walk, in Bromley-by-Bow by welcoming the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) Tom Copley to view progress made.

Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development Tom Copley joined representatives of Muse, Poplar HARCA, community representatives, as well as lead contractor McAleer & Rushe, to celebrate the launch of this mixed-use scheme, which will deliver much needed affordable housing for east London residents.

The Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, said: “I’m pleased to celebrate the progress at Stroudley Walk which will deliver 115 new genuinely affordable homes in east London, alongside green areas and community spaces.

“This impressive development builds on City Hall’s record levels of affordable housebuilding across the capital and will ensure that more Londoners can benefit from new, high-quality homes – helping to build a better, fairer, more prosperous London for everyone.”

Located between Bruce Road and Bromley High Street, Stroudley Walk will provide the local community with 274 new homes ranging in size from one to four bedrooms, from studio apartments to four-bedroom, terraced family homes.

Fifty-two per cent of the development will be affordable housing by habitable room. It will include 82 homes available for London Affordable Rent and 33 for shared ownership. All three- and four-bedroom homes will be delivered as London Affordable Rent for the families who need them most.

Stroudley Walk is being designed with its diverse community in mind. Through community conversations with residents, businesses and local people, Poplar HARCA and Muse are creating a neighbourhood that will meet its housing, green space, connectivity, and commercial needs. Over 500 local people have given feedback to influence the final proposals, designed by RMA Architects.

Sitting close to the heart of Bromley-by-Bow, Stroudley Walk will deliver an important north-to-south route through the neighborhood connecting Bow Road with Bromley-by-Bow in an area which has limited pedestrian permeability. Once completed there will be shops, open spaces, and a community café on the ground floor, providing spaces for the wider community to enjoy.

The previously harsh concrete environment of Stroudley Walk will be softened by 33 new trees and additional plants, the delivery of a pocket park and public spaces. This new outdoor space will promote biodiversity, improve natural surveillance and encourage street play and community activities.

Existing shops at Stroudley Walk will stay open throughout the construction, with Muse and Poplar HARCA working with them to minimise disruption of business.

Isabelle Asante, Senior Development Manager at Muse, said: “Stroudley Walk provides a unique opportunity for the Bromley-by-Bow community, with 52% affordable housing, public spaces, and most importantly community spaces.

“Our plans set out to honour Bromley-by-Bow's rich history and heritage, whilst building for the future and creating meaningful social impact for the local community.

“It was great to welcome Tom onto site, to show the capability Stroudley Walk and thank the GLA for their support on the project to date.

Paul Dooley, Director of Development and Regeneration at Poplar HARCA, said: “Stroudley Walk is set to transform the local area and we are delighted at the progress made on this important development. It will make a huge difference to local families, by providing much-needed new affordable homes, alongside green spaces and amenities the community can be proud of.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome the Deputy Mayor to visit the site and we appreciate all the funding and support the GLA have provided to make this scheme a success.”

Stroudley Walk is set to be complete in Autumn 2025.
