Following the government announcement that the date for Biodiversity Net Gain becoming legislation being pushed back to 2024, stressing the importance of bolstering nature in our developments has never been more crucial.
Since April 2023, UKGBC has been building a catalogue of work on Biodiversity Net Gain that empowers organisations to roll out BNG on their projects.
All the resources are designed to educate and encourage organisations ahead of BNG legislation coming in January 2024. However, they also take you one step further, demonstrating how and why organisations must go above and beyond legislation and embrace Environmental Net Gain.
The two resources launched today are Biodiversity Net Gain Checklists and a BNG Stakeholder Map. The checklists are convenient crib sheets for anyone wanting to implement Biodiversity Net Gain, to follow and be held accountable by as they look to increase nature on their developments. The stakeholder action plan lays out how different stakeholders are involved in BNG, and what specific roles they play.
Kerri McCarton, Project Coordinator for Nature and Resilience at UKGBC said: “Despite the legislative delay, UKGBC remains dedicated to collaborating with the industry to co-create supporting guidance for the advancement of BNG projects. This commitment underscores the significant ambition and progress made by the built environment sector toward UK biodiversity and nature recovery, pushing ahead of policy development.
“This is why we are delighted to share the final outputs of the UKGBC BNG/ENG project: a comprehensive biodiversity project process checklist, and stakeholder map.”
