The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), acting on behalf of the U.S. Air Force, has awarded a contract to deliver European Infrastructure Consolidation (EIC) works at RAF Molesworth.
The £219 million contract, which is funded by the US, has been awarded to a joint venture, Skanska Black & Veatch. It includes design and construction of the new facility in Cambridgeshire, which will support US Visiting Forces. The two-storey facility, with supporting infrastructure and warehouse, is estimated to be completed in 2028.
The project is due to begin enabling works in the spring, with full construction commencing late next year.

David Brewer, DIO’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “This contract award marks the latest stage of an ongoing and important relationship between DIO and our NATO partners and allies, the USA. We look forward to working hard with our suppliers to deliver an impressive facility for the U.S. Air Force.”
Brig Gen Kale, Commander, US Air Force Civil Engineer Center, said: “This project marks yet another step forward in the enduring partnership between the United States and its NATO ally and partner, the United Kingdom. Working with DIO and its suppliers, the U.S. Air Force remains eager to bring this facility to its successful completion.”
Skanska Executive Vice President Adam McDonald said: “We’re very excited to be working with DIO to deliver this project. We have long-standing experience of delivering complex projects in the Defence sector, which means we can hit the ground running when we move on to this site.
“Our expertise allows us to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that improve daily life for military personnel, while driving down costs for the Armed Forces, MOD and DIO.”
Rick Kaiser, President of Black & Veatch’s Federal Segment, said: “This effort focuses on both sustainability and resiliency, two key aspects of advancing DIO’s efforts.
“Our experience and track record working with US and other government clients allows us to understand their goals and deliver the infrastructure needed to advance those goals.”
