Patshull Activity Centre, a volunteer run Scout campsite that has played host to tens of thousands of children across the Black Country,South Staffordshire, and Shropshire since before the First World War has undergone a comprehensive renovation and redevelopment.
The site of early 20th Century buildings including a former Golf House has been extensively modernised to accommodate up to twenty-eight persons, all with bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, common room and dining hall. There is an enclosed veranda that provides a work/craft area and an adjacent brick-built barn used as a training room/classroom and indoor activity area.
The renovation required the replacement of the existing windows and doors for new units with high thermal and acoustic performance whilst maintaining the essential character of the buildings. All windows and doors were fabricated and installed by Shropshire based contractor HTL Windows andDoors, who ensured that the exterior aesthetic of the original buildings remained as unchanged as possible which included fabricating bespoke windows to replace windows being removed.
The Kestrel 60mm window system was chosen because of its proven record in this type of development. The windows specified were lowU-value PAS24 security accreditation double glazed units throughout. Top-hung units were fitted with folding openers to positively lock the window in a closed or open position with a specific gap, to deliver Safe and secure restricted opening and ventilation.Kestrel’s high performance thermal framing was specified for the enclosed veranda. Designed to be integrated with Kestrel window and door suites the system offers commonality of design to give a uniformed aesthetic.
All windows and doors were powder coatedAnthracite Grey (RAL 7016) at Kestrel’s powder coating facility who were on hand to offer expert knowledge and guidance throughout all stages of the project from initial specification through to on-site support.
