Following recommendations from the Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC MP, Minister of State for Housing and Planning, ARB is pleased to announce that the Privy Council has appointed Thomas McDermott as a Lay Member of the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for a four-year period.
Three other Board members – Elena Marco, Liz Male and Will Freeman – have had their reappointments confirmed for a further four-year period.
The Board has also welcomed Shamoon Hussain through the Boardroom Apprentice scheme, which aims to support aspiring board members through a structured year-long development programme.
Alan Kershaw, Chair of ARB, said: “I am delighted that Tom is joining us on the ARB Board. His extensive financial and managerial experience will be a great addition to the mix of skills and business expertise currently represented by our 11-strong Board. Our next Board meeting is on 15 February 2023 and I look forward to Tom bringing his skills to the important work we have been doing: to help architects and architecture be as good as they can be. I would also like to extend an enthusiastic welcome to Shamoon as our new Boardroom Apprentice and look forward to his presence and feedback in our meetings.”
The ARB Board is made up of 11 members, all appointed by the Privy Council. This includes one independent, non-executive Chair and ten non-executive Board members made up of five members of the public and five architects. A Board member’s tenure cannot exceed eight years (whether consecutive or not).
