Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, will be questioned on the Government’s Levelling-Up plans and the state of local government finances, in an evidence session with the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee.
Speaking ahead of Monday’s session. Clive Betts, Chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee, said there were a series of critical issues which the Committee are keen to raise with the Secretary of State.
“Local government is experiencing huge funding pressures while many of the vital services that councils provide face crisis,” he explained.
“In light of the Autumn Statement, we will also want to question the Secretary of State on social care and on the impact of inflation and energy costs on local government.
“As a Committee, we will also want to pick up on other issues of long-standing concern, including progress on levelling-up, building safety, the Government’s support schemes for Ukraine refugees, and the need for urgent reform of our social housing sector.”
