British Woodworking Federation 2022 Awards shortlist revealed

This year’s shortlist for the prestigious British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Awards has been revealed.

This will be the 14th year of the BWF Awards, which celebrate the outstanding skills and talent in the woodworking and joinery sector, and the milestone achievements of the past year.

Helen Hewitt, Chief Executive of the BWF, commented: “This year’s BWF Awards shine a spotlight on truly inspirational and innovative projects from across our profession. We received a huge number of entries, and this year’s shortlist demonstrates the breadth of the skills, creativity and talent in the BWF membership and across our sector.

“This year we’re introducing a brand new category – the BWF Heritage Project of the Year Award. This new award celebrates the incredible skill and expertise that goes into restoring and developing period properties. With a fantastic number of entries for this category alone, we’re excited to showcase the skill and technical expertise involved in these projects.”

Helen added, “The BWF Awards allow us to come together and celebrate the achievements made over the past year. I’m looking forward to a fantastic evening full of fun, conversation and good company to champion the fantastic successes of our ever-evolving profession.”

The winners will be announced at the BWF’s Annual Dinner which will take place at the Kimpton Fitzroy London Hotel, on Friday 25th November.

BWF Process and Resource Efficiency Award - Sponsored by Teknos

Brookeswood Joinery Ltd: Process Efficiency Project. For their project to improve process efficiencies and the customer journey.

Stairways Midlands Ltd: Operational Efficiency Project. For their project to optimise internal efficiencies and lead times, while maintaining high quality products.

The Sash Window Workshop: Carbon Emission Reduction Project. For its project to identify and significantly reduce carbon emissions and offset their remaining emissions.

BWF Innovation in Design Award - Sponsored by Anker Stuy Coatings

Mumford & Wood Timber Windows and Doors: KOKO Camden. For the manufacture of high performing acoustic windows on the restoration of an iconic building in Camden.

Precision Made Joinery Ltd: Suffolk Project. For the intricate and challenging internal restoration of a period property in Suffolk.

Valdi Ltd: Cornerless Bifold System. For the innovative design and manufacture of a cornerless timber bifold door system that allows the building to open on three sides.

BWF Woodworking Project of the Year Award - Sponsored by National Timber Group

B A Joinery: The Spine. For its high-quality bespoke joinery on The Spine project at The Royal College of Physicians in Liverpool.

Precision Made Joinery Ltd: Suffolk Project. For its multifaceted renovation of a heritage property in Suffolk.

Wandsworth Sash Windows: Bromley Street. For the design, manufacture and installation of sympathetic box sash windows on a listed property in East London.

BWF Heritage Project of the Year Award - Sponsored by Remmers (UK) Ltd

Gowercroft Joinery Ltd: Mews House Deep Retrofit. For the complex retrofit of a low energy Victorian listed mews property in West London.

Precision Made Joinery Ltd: Suffolk Project. For the outstanding renovation and restoration of a period property in Suffolk.

Wandsworth Sash Windows: Ritherdon Road. For the intricate replacement of sash windows, including the retention of the original stained glass, on a property in Southwest London.

BWF Rising Star Award - Sponsored by CITB

Natalie DaviesAccsys. Natalie's company have said that she has truly embraced the world of wood and quickly developed close relationships with key accounts. Natalie is highly professional and an active ambassador for the internal green champions network.

Jamie Dixon - ERW Joinery Ltd. According to his company, Jamie has demonstrated exceptional skill and aspiration for the growth of the business. His attention to detail and customer service have positively impacted both the business and its customers.

Louise Sheppard - JCK Joinery. According to her company, Louise has demonstrated great commitment and worked tirelessly to maintain a high level of customer service. Louise never sees issues, just another challenge to be dealt with.

BWF Apprentice of the Year - Sponsored by Lorient

Alfie Read - Oakwrights Bath Ltd. Alfie's employer praised his attitude, maturity and commitment, which are all reflected in the high quality of his work. His tutor added that he has proven himself as a skilled professional and leads his peers by example.

Robert Shaw - A R Manley and Son Ltd. Robert's tutor said that he is probably the most conscientious student that he has ever met. His employer praised his organisation and focus, adding that he is an asset to their company and an advocate for apprenticeships.

Aidan Taylor - TMJ Interiors Ltd. According to his employer, Aidan takes pride in everything he does and sets himself the highest standards. His tutor praised his precision and accuracy, adding that this perfectionism is also reflected in his work ethic.

BWF Health and Safety Certificate of Commendation - Sponsored by PIB Insurance Brokers

To be announced on at the BWF Awards to acknowledge and champion the role of health and safety in keeping all those in the woodworking and joinery manufacture profession safe at work.
