Government questioned about Levelling Up funding

Clive Betts, Chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee has written to Neil O’Brien, Levelling-Up Minister with a series of questions concerning the many grants and funding pots connected with the levelling-up agenda.

The LUHC Committee is examining a series of policy areas as part of their work into levelling-up.

The Committee intends to do some detailed work on the funds available for levelling-up and, in preparation for this, the letter includes questions around the allocation of these resources and the aim, size and focus of the many different funds available.

Clive Betts, LUHC Committee Chair, has also written separate correspondence to Neil O’Brien, Levelling-Up Minister, regarding aspects of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), with questions concerning how much of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF) remains to be paid out. This follows a reply from the Minister to previous correspondence which did not directly address this matter.

Clive Betts, Chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee, said: “Levelling-up is a crucial part of the Government’s agenda but the complex array of grants and funding pots allocated by the DLUHC and other Government departments makes it difficult, if not impossible, to assess what precisely is going on to improve communities up and down the country.

“As a Committee, we want to track the progress of the government’s levelling-up policy and the funding available and how it is allocated. We will hold evidence sessions on this in the autumn, but to aid our work we are requesting more information and more transparency from the Government now.”
