Zero home concept launched by modular specialist ilke

Britain’s housing crisis and the global climate emergency are the UK’s biggest challenges of the 21st century.

Buildings currently account for 40% of carbon emissions in the UK and 60% of all waste.

In order to meet climate targets, and stop adding to the huge retrofit challenge, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), has given the construction industry just ten years to make all new buildings, not just homes, Zero Carbon.

Following five years of pioneering R&D, including five completed Zero Carbon Housing sites, ilke Homes says its designs have evolved to our next generation of Zero Carbon Homes.

Thanks to advances in ilke’s manufacturing processes, robotics and AI-driven design, alongside reductions in key component costs, ilke Homes is now in a position to commit to only creating Zero Carbon communities by 2030, at no extra cost to investors and housing associations, while consumers living in an ilke ZERO house are expected to pay nothing for energy, saving nearly £1,000 a year on bills.

Last month, ilke Homes revealed it had grown its order book to over £200 million, in a sign that modular housing is becoming increasingly popular among investors.

The milestone, which puts ilke Homes on par with some of the UK’s biggest housebuilders, has been reached following today’s announcement that the Yorkshire-based company has agreed a £44 million deal with ReSI LP’s for-profit Registered Provider, ReSI Homes Limited.

Dave Sheridan, executive chairman of ilke Homes, said: “Factory-built housing is a unique proposition for investors in that it can future-proof investments against government policy, help meet strict ESG criteria thanks to its green credentials, and allow for revenue streams to be accessed as quick as possible due to a significant reductions in construction programmes.”

Savills predicts that by 2030, the proportion of homes being delivered using offsite manufacturing will double to 20 percent. According to the estate agency, the three main drivers are: the cost and availability of labour, housing supply shortages and regulatory or governmental intervention.
