Tamworth based fabricators Window and Door Group have just completed phase two of the development of Ashlawn School based in Rugby. The extension of the Expressive Arts Centre now provides a brand new centre for students and teachers to collaborate on creative projects in state-of-the-art facilities.
The Challenge
The contractors overseeing the extension of the school buildings required a complete glazing solution from their chosen supplier and needed to be reassured that the glazing products would be onsite in full by the specified date to allow the build to move onto the next phase.
The Solution
Turning to Window and Door Group to manufacture and install all the glazing requirements, Symond Constructions’ Project Manager Darren Knapp knew that Window and Door could be relied upon as the two companies had previously worked together on phase one of the school redevelopment. Clearly having been impressed in the past by the excellent level of service offered, Window and Door once again opted to quote this second phase using Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ window and door systems.
Quoting the project using Logikal estimating software a wide range of
Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ products were utilised; both thermal and
non-thermal ground floor treatment and commercial doors and the
60mm Window suite.
Working closely with the Ashlawn School Facilities Manager Ray Anderson, the windows were specified were
manufactured as top hung using restricted hinges to comply with building safety regulations for schools and public
buildings. Opting to use the complete 150mm cill section the windows sit neatly in the opening and have a uniform
aesthetic using black accessories externally and silver internally.
As with all new buildings ensuring it is of paramount importance that the products are thermally efficient and secure
and therefore the Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ thermal framing and thermal commercial door systems were
installed. This provided peace of mind for the school that all the entrances to the building are secure as the
commercial door system has been tested to achieve PAS24 security standard.
The Benefits
By turning to their trusted aluminium supplier, Kestrel Aluminium Systems, Window and Door Maintenance were confident that the material they were specifying would be delivered on time, be suitable for installation in the school and meet their own high quality standards.
Placing the material for all the different systems in
one order assured Window and Door Group that
they would receive all the material at the same time
enabling the workshop to be able to divide the work
up into a manageable schedule over a 3 month period.
Kestrel Aluminium Systems’ Sales Manager John Treagust visited the school with Sean Anderson, Director of Window
and Door Group to see both phases of the project completed by our customer. “Until you are on site you can’t quite
gauge just how big this project is going to be. Already having completed half of it Window and Door Group have
made a significant contribution to the overall build, and whilst the choice of green as a window colour is unusual
one, once it was on site and installed against the red panels and wood cladding it fitted in perfectly creating a bright
and modern building.”
