At this year’s Energy Show 2018 (UK Construction Week, NEC, Birmingham, 9-11 October) Calor is demonstrating how its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) solution can provide opportunities for commercial specifiers and installers to meet the commitments outlined in the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy.
The strategy sets out proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy throughout the 2020s, with particular emphasis on improving business and industry efficiency, which accounts for 25 per cent of UK emissions.
For customers operating off the mains gas grid, this means careful consideration needs to be made to the longevity of their boiler installation. With most commercial boilers typically having a lifespan of between 15 to 20 years, specifiers will want to advise their customers on the options for upgrading an existing installation or whether to invest capital in new technology, selecting a fuel that is future-proofed, such as LPG.
LPG is the lowest carbon-emitting fossil fuel available off grid, with fewer harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx).
LPG can be used in the same types of commercial and industrial space and water heating systems as natural gas, including radiator systems, warm-air heating, strip and plaque radiant heaters and industrial unit heaters. It is equally suitable for use with condensing boilers.
The company has recently launched BioLPG into the transport and logistics market, and plans to make the fuel more readily available for commercial applications in due course. Available exclusively from Calor it is chemically identical to conventional LPG but created from renewable, ethically sourced feedstocks.
BioLPG will offer even lower CO2 emissions – up to 38 per cent lower, depending on the proportion of waste materials used in the fuel – without reducing performance.
For specifiers and installers, the fact that BioLPG is chemically identical means it is a drop-in renewable fuel, so in the future, there won’t be the need for businesses currently using LPG to invest in new equipment or appliances.
In addition, LPG boilers can be up to £900 cheaper than purchasing a new replacement oil boiler, plus, when switching from oil to LPG there is usually no need to change internal pipework or radiators, helping to save cost for the end customer.
Backed by a well-established supply infrastructure throughout the UK – with Calor positioned as the UK’s largest LPG supplier - LPG offers a viable alternative to businesses looking to switch from oil boilers to fuel their operations.
Commercial installers and specifiers can also benefit from Calor’s free site survey option where Calor’s specialist engineers will survey the customer’s site, without any obligation, advise on planning and provide a quote.
Finally, when Calor gas is specified, the company will pay £500 to the installer for every new commercial bulk customer.
Commercial specifiers and installers interested in learning more about the benefits of LPG for their customers can visit Calor at the show on stand number E510.
