Washroom Washroom does the double

Commercial washroom designer and manufacturer, Washroom Washroom, has completed two office refurbishment projects for two separate but adjoining buildings in London’s Bloomsbury district.

The two eight-storey buildings on Alfred Place, both owned by GPE, have recently been refurbished by Ben Adams Architects to provide high quality flexible office space and are now both fully let.

Located within a conservation district, the refurbishment had to be carried out sensitively to ensure the building met the appropriate regulations.

Washroom worked closely with main contractor 8Build, to deliver new washroom facilities in both properties within the tight timeframe allocated.

At 33-34 Alfred Place Washroom installed new superloos from the basement area and up to level six. Each self-contained unisex cubicle includes a toilet, bespoke vanity units with glass upstands and mirrors as well as hand drying facilities, and are an ideal way to maximise the available space.

The team also installed disabled toilet facilities to exactly the same high specification design and finish.

The new superloos feature Washroom’s half height Concerto duct panel system, which the team installed behind each toilet to allow access for any future maintenance and create a hygienic, easy-to-clean surface.

In addition to the practical benefits, the duct panelling was faced with specially manufactured Linit Ultra low iron ribbed glass, to add to the contemporary washroom design.

A key part of the refurbishment at number 34 was the creation of a staff cycle centre in the basement which includes two showers, a changing area, 30 lockers and 26 secure bike spaces. Being able to offer additional facilities such as this is becoming increasingly important for office buildings if they are to remain let and therefore profitable.

Washroom designed, manufactured and installed bespoke white Corian bench seating in the shower areas along with its popular Forza solid grade laminate lockers with key access.

Both the lockers and benching were specified in a solid white colour to match the crisp modern design seen throughout the rest of the building’s common areas.

Aside from the washrooms and cycle centre, in the refreshed entrance area to the building, Washroom installed a mirror which was manufactured from the same Linit Ultra low iron ribbed glass as the Concerto duct panels. Its partner company, Cre8 Joinery Solutions also delivered numerous bespoke joinery elements including a striking HI-MACS reception desk and glass wall linings throughout the building including lift lobby areas on all levels.

The refurbishment of number 31/32 Alfred Place involved the installation of Washroom’s full height flush front Alto laminate toilet cubicles and Concerto laminate duct paneling as well as work to box in the vanities on levels ground to sixth inclusive. All the required ancillary washroom items were also supplied and installed by Washroom for both properties as part of this project.

Trevor Bowers, director at Washroom Washroom commented: “This is a great example of our bespoke design service and highlights how specifying more unusual materials or finishes can make a real impact on the overall design.

"It also shows how, by working together with our partner company Cre8, we can offer much more than washroom design to deliver truly unique projects for our clients.”
