When Ingleton Wood was tasked with refreshing the design of Edmonton Green library, bright and stimulating colours from Forbo Flooring Systems’ Digital Print Eternal General Purpose Vinyl (GPV) collection were chosen, to transform the children’s area into a fun and contemporary space.

The recent refurbishment of Edmonton Green library in North London reflects Enfield Council’s ambitious plans to create an unparalleled 21st century facility. In line with this, the two-storey library incorporates a broad palette of inspiring colours to create an aesthetically pleasing and welcoming environment for its visitors.

David Wright, Project Manager at Ingleton Wood said: “The library renovation marks an exciting time for Enfield Council and the local area, so it was our job to design a vibrant, multi-functional public space, which would be fit for the future. Therefore, the products that we specified had to be hardwearing in order to cope with the daily heavy footfall that Enfield Borough’s busiest library experiences now and for many years to come.

“The library offers fantastic resources for children and as such, we needed to create an environment that encouraged young people to want to visit the library, while inspiring them to learn. We selected Forbo’s Rainbow colourway from the Eternal Colour collection due to the flooring’s durability and colourful digitally printed design, which can inject an element of fun into any room. The colourful design runs seamlessly from the reception down the ramp, through the buggy park and into the children’s library, making the children’s area easily accessible for parents with buggies.”

Forbo’s Eternal Colour heterogeneous vinyl flooring collection can be used in various spaces wherever people work, learn or play. The PVC wear layer maximises the wear resistance of the material and maintains the integrity of the design. Furthermore, the vinyl uses Forbo’s proven PUR Pearl lacquering protection technique to ensure the highest level of chemical and scuff resistance for a long-lasting appearance.

The unique rainbow design reveals a spectrum of colour gradients over a 10m length, enabling a rolling cascade of rainbow hues as the first colour follows the last without any break in the pattern. The multi-coloured print creates a fun and fresh abstract effect.

Michael Piyiotis, Customer Service Team Leader at Edmonton Green Library said: “The children’s area attracts a lot of visitors and following the installation of Forbo’s bright floor covering, we have received very positive feedback – the children seem to like it a lot. I have often seen them jumping from one colour to the next and using the floor to play games with each other – in fact, I think that some of the little ones only come back to the library because of the floor.

"The rainbow effect is striking and the colours complement the interior design very well. The new library is a breath of fresh air for Edmonton Green and the surrounding area.”

David Wright, Project Manager at Ingleton Wood concluded: “We are very pleased with the rainbow flooring design in the new library, it adds personality to the space and brings a sense of enjoyment for the children.

"We are so impressed with it, that we have specified it again for another project that we are working on at a high school in south-west London. Working with Forbo was also great, the company’s employees were very helpful with any technical support we required.”

The Edmonton Green library project has been awarded ‘Commended’ in the Fly Forbo 2017/2018 competition.
