Four challenging and complex projects completed using Sika’s high-performance flooring products have been shortlisted in the annual FeRFA Resin Flooring Association Best Practice Awards.
Sika submitted two entries in the Large Industrial Project of the Year category and one each in the Small Industrial and Small Commercial categories, with each project entered in conjunction with an established flooring contractor. All four have made the respective shortlists.
The two Large Industrial entries, BMW Oxford and Howden Joinery, were entered in partnership with IRL Group and Zircon Flooring, respectively.
The BMW Oxford project saw IRL Group tasked with installing more than 3,700m2 of flooring at the automotive giant’s processing plant in just six days. Sikafloor®-235 ESD was chosen for this project for two reasons; the performance and suitability of the product – providing protection in the electrical components environment – and the speed of application.
For the Howden Joinery project, Zircon Flooring used Sikadur®-31 CF to carry out 19,974m of crack repairs and treated a further 1,200m2 with Sikafloor®-81 Epocem® as a DPM. The Small Industrial category entry, also submitted in partnership with Zircon Flooring, was for the contractor’s work on the ITV Emmerdale studio project.
ITV required a flooring solution that has proven anti-static qualities as static charges can have a disastrous effect on sensitive electrical components such as HD cameras in technical areas with high footfall. To overcome this potentially, problematic issue, Sikafloor® 262AS a two-part electrostatically conductive textured epoxy coating, was selected.
For Stick ‘n’ Step, a charity based in Wallasey, Merseyside which supports young people with cerebral palsy, contractors Quest Industrial required a new anti-slip flooring solution. Sika ComfortFloor® Pro, a smooth, durable, slip-resistant, resin-based system that boasts excellent shock absorption properties was specified.
This flooring system had successfully delivered similar results for Rainbow House in Lancashire, a charity that supports young children in much the same way as Stick ‘n’ Step and had comparable objectives.

The FeRFA Resin Flooring Association Best Practice Awards, presented this year by comedian, Jo Caulfield, takes place at the Belfry Hotel in the West Midlands on Friday 17 November.
