More than 13,500 new homes were registered to be built in August, according to NHBC’s latest new home registration statistics, an increase of 9% compared to a year ago.
A total of 13,569 new homes (10,811 private sector; 2,758 affordable sector) were registered during the month, compared to 12,489 (9,153 private sector; 3,336 affordable sector) in August 2016.
And 38,360 new homes were registered during the rolling quarter (June to August), a 3% increase on the 37,145 registered at the same time last year.

Over the rolling quarter 28,866 homes were registered in the private sector, representing a 2% increase on the same period a year ago (28,247), with 9,494 new homes registered in the affordable sector, a 7% increase on 2016 numbers (8,898).
The rise in the UK's affordable sector can be attributed to a number of larger Housing Associations developing homes for market rent, private sale and shared ownership, along with a rise in joint ventures with the private sector.
Half of the 12 UK regions experienced growth in registrations over the rolling quarter, when compared to the same period last year. Scotland (3,381 +44%), West Midlands (3,411 +27%) and Wales (1,529 +25%) were among the regions with most notable growth.
As the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, NHBC's registration statistics are a lead indicator of the UK’s new homes market.
Commenting on August's figures, NHBC Business Development Director Neil Jefferson said: "The sustained growth in new home registrations has continued as we approach the latter part of the year.
"The demand for new homes remains strong, so it is a promising sign that August's registrations show growth in both the private and affordable sectors and across half of the UK regions."
During June - August 2017, the number of NHBC new home registrations was 38,360 compared to 37,145 in the same period last year. Of these: 28,866 were registered in the private sector, compared to 28,247 in the same period last year; and 9,494 were registered in the affordable sector, compared to 8,898 in the same period last year.
