CMS Window Systems, Scotland’s leading window, door and curtain walling designer, fabricator and installer, has been appointed by North Lanarkshire Council as the successful bidder for its window and door replacement framework tender.
The contract, worth at least £7m, to replace energy inefficient windows and doors in domestic properties across the region, will run for three years until the end of March 2020, with the possibility of being extended by a further one year.
This significant contract win comes soon after successfully securing a £5m contract win with East Dunbartonshire Council.
In the lead up to 2020, the year by which the properties of all social landlords in Scotland are required to meet the energy Efficiency Standard in Social Housing (EESSH,) CMS will manufacture and install energy efficient windows and doors across North Lanarkshire Council’s housing stock. This will improve the energy efficiency of these homes and contribute towards the achievement of EESSH for the local authority.
The resulting improvements will not only be aesthetically pleasing but more importantly will help to reduce energy consumption aiding the fight against fuel poverty. The emission of greenhouse gases is also reduced which is in line with the requirements set out in the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009.
CMS will begin work on the contract from May 2017 by manufacturing and installing windows and doors which are A-rated for energy efficiency and security certified by the police-approved Secured by Design initiative. A mixture of window styles will be utilised appropriately throughout the contract and either composite or PVCu doors will also be provided. CMS is delighted to help bring these improvements to the homes of residents in North Lanarkshire as they will help to significantly reduce heat loss, helping occupants to comfortably heat their homes using less energy.
Craig Reid, Contracts Director at CMS Window Systems commented: “We’re very pleased that North Lanarkshire Council, like East Dunbartonshire Council, has appointed us to deliver its framework agreement for the replacement of windows and doors.
CMS is built on a sustainability ethos, which extends into every aspect of the business including a commitment to apprenticeships and youth employment and as a major employer based in the Central Belt, it is extremely pleasing to know that the North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire contracts will provide job security for our employees as well as help reduce the potential of succumbing to fuel poverty for many vulnerable residents in Central Scotland.”
