ACO supplies expertise to high speed rail college

ACO Water Management has supplied channel drainage and pledged expert support to the new campus of National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR).

The National College for High Speed Rail is the largest of five new employer-led National Colleges being created to ensure British workers learn world-class skills in key sectors such as digital media, nuclear, creative, oil and gas and high speed rail.

Due to open in September 2017, the brand new 61,350 sq. ft. campus located near Birmingham’s Snow Hill Station will produce thousands of workers skilled in engineering, design, planning, and construction for the high speed rail industry and beyond.

As the first supplier to sign up to the NCHSR’s ‘Leadership Pledge’, ACO are committed to supporting the college develop the curriculum with its’ water management expertise and the aim to equip the next generation of rail engineers with the skills and vision needed to maximise the potential of high speed rail in the UK.

As part of the final construction phase, ACO has supplied a high volume of its MultiDrain MD product and heavy-duty S Range of channels to cater to the Birmingham site’s water management needs. MultiDrain MD is a high strength channel drainage system designed to provide an economical solution for the efficient removal of surface water. Certified up to Load Class D 400, the system will be used throughout the college’s pedestrianised landscaped areas and car parks. The high-strength S Range channels, which are Load Class F 900, will be used in areas likely to experience traffic from heavy goods vehicles.

Beth Curtis, the college’s Head of Partnerships and Communications said: “The National College for High Speed Rail will enable people from across the UK to seize a once-in-a-generation opportunity to work in an exciting new industry.

ACO are involved in all scale of rail projects with specialist water management systems across the UK’s national rail and light rail networks, from Crossrail to the Metrolink in Manchester. The extensive product range can be applied to a wide variety of applications including stations & curtilage, platforms, maintenance depots, station parking and parking decks.

ACO will be in attendance at the Birmingham Open Day on May 3 and for its sister site in Doncaster on the May 4, where prospective students will be able to find out what the National College for High Speed Rail has to offer.
