In total 11,651 new homes (8,695 private sector; 2,956 affordable sector) were registered in January, an increase of 14% on the 10,248 (7,843 private sector; 2,405 affordable sector) registered 12 months ago.

Overall, there were 38,313 new home registrations in the rolling quarter (November 2016 - January 2017), compared to 32,315 in the same period last year, an increase of 19%. Private sector registrations increased by 22% over this period (28,984 in 2016/17; 23,851 in 2015/16), with the affordable sector increasing by 10% (9,329 in 2016/17; 8,464 in 2015/16).

Over the rolling quarter many UK regions experienced notable growth, including Yorkshire & Humberside (81%), Eastern (53%) and Wales (51%), when compared to the same time last year.

As the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, NHBC's registration statistics, representing approximately 80% of the new homes market, are a lead indicator of UK house-building activity.

Commenting on the latest figures, NHBC Managing Director Neil Jefferson said: "The promising new home registration volumes seen towards the end of last year have continued, with the industry seeing a strong start to 2017.

"At a time when there is high demand for new homes, this growth is encouraging."

NHBC UK statistics from Nov 2016 - Jan 2017 show that during Nov '16 - Jan '17, the number of NHBC new home registrations was 38,313, compared to 32,315 in the same period last year.
