A ventilation problem solved for landlord

A landlord with over 20 properties in the Colchester area, has recently specified EnviroVent’s Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) units in 14 of her tenants’ homes.

Annette Bright first came across EnviroVent at an exhibition at a time when a number of her tenants were complaining of issues with condensation and mould growth in their properties.

Annette Bright explains: “Any landlord knows that issues with condensation, damp and mould can become a real burden, especially in the colder months. It can also be an issue with particular tenants if they insist on drying clothes indoors and do not open windows or if fans or extract ventilation becomes blocked in a kitchen or bathroom.

"Some tenants had cold spots in their homes or cold walls, which caused moisture to migrating to and cause an issue with damp and mould. We knew we had to look at a permanent mould and condensation solution.”

Annette had got to a point where she had maintenance staff working around the clock to carry out remedial work, including re-plastering walls that had been affected by damp, cleaning mould from walls, carrying out repainting work and applying temporary mould treatments, such as stain blocks.

EnviroVent’s ventilation specialists recommended PIV systems to 14 properties where tenants were suffering issues. All 14 whole house ventilation systems were fitted within a week of placing the order, with minimum disruption and inconvenience to tenants.

As Annette explains: “The PIV units have achieved everything that we wanted them to. We have had no further complaints from any of the tenants who had suffered from condensation and mould problems. I’ve also had a PIV system fitted into my own home and into a couple of our staff’s properties. I had heard from EnviroVent that their systems can help with reducing the symptoms of asthma. My husband had severe asthma for a number of years, but actually has seen vast improvements since the PIV unit was fitted.

“I would advise any landlord with condensation and mould problems to request a survey from EnviroVent. I have saved a fortune by not having to constantly address issues associated with poor ventilation.”

Scott Evans, EnviroVent’s ventilation specialist, said: “We are often contacted by landlords who are looking for help with solving problems of poor indoor air quality. In Annette’s case, PIV was exactly the right solution for her houses and flats and we are delighted that her tenants have experienced no further issues.”

EnviroVent is one of the pioneers of Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) which works by drawing in fresh, filtered clean air from outside, and gently ventilating the home from a central position on a landing or the central hallway in a flat or bungalow. EnviroVent’s range of whole house ventilation products control humidity and moisture levels, so mould and condensation problems are significantly reduced.

EnviroVent, which has its headquarters in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, has over 25 years’ experience in delivering sustainable products that are built to last the life cycle of a building.
