Universal appeal for clay

To satisfy demand for angular ridge and hip tiles made in clay, Redland has developed the Clay Universal Angle Ridge and Hip Tiles.

These new ridges and hips are the clay equivalent of the ever-popular Universal Angle Ridge and Hip tiles manufactured from concrete. The clay tiles are suited for use with all types of natural and fibre cement slates as well as our own Cambrian Slates or Rosemary Clay Classic plain tiles in Red.

Although Redland already offers Rosemary clay ridge and hip tiles, these are round in profile. Where angular ridges were required, concrete had to be used, which was sometimes unacceptable for planning or aesthetic reasons.

The new ridge and hip tiles can be used with all Redland dry fix ridge and hip systems, including DryVent Ridge, Rapid Vented Ridge, Dry Hip, Rapid Hip and Uni-Vent Rapid Ridge/Hip. They can also be mortar bedded utilising the new Redland Mortar Bedded Fixing Kit (purchased separately).

Produced in both Black and Red, the Clay Universal Angle Ridge and Hip Tiles are ideal for both the new build and renovation sectors across the country but are expected to be particularly popular in the private renovation sector where similar tiles are in need of replacement.

The colour of the Black ridge and hip tile is achieved by the application of black engobe over the top surface and ends of the tile. Engobe is a ceramic material applied prior to firing. The high clay content of the engobe ensures that when the tile is fired, the tile and engobe fuse together becoming one, such that the engobe will last as long as the tile itself.

The Black tiles also have manganese added to the clay to darken the body. This ensures a dark appearance is maintained if the tiles are cut.

The tiles are produced from the finest clays at a factory utilising the highest standards in clay processing technology. This results in products that are strong, smooth and geometrically accurate for a consistent look.
