With health and safety at the forefront of all aspects of its business, Sunsquare has been awarded a SMAS Worksafe Certificate.
The news follows a recent SMAS Worksafe audit of Sunsquare Ltd. The evidence provided by the skylight manufacturer shows its health and safety management systems meet the requirements as set out in the Construction Design & Management Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007).
This is essential for some of Sunsquare’s clients with duties under CDM 2007 where they must satisfy themselves that the businesses they are engaged with are competent in health and safety.
The process involved in obtaining the certification is also in line with The Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
Justin Seldis, managing director of Sunsquare, comments: "Health and safety is of paramount importance to us. Receiving the SMAS Worksafe Certification is essential for Sunsquare as a business. We work with many contractors and understand the reassurance that meeting the criteria brings.
“The SMAS is a member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement Forum (SSIP) Forum. Since the launch of the SSIP, many contractors now follow the SSIP approach to health and safety pre-qualification. In many circumstances, contractors will only use third party businesses that hold a valid SMAS Worksafe certificate.”
From a broader industry point of view, with the SMAS Worksafe Certificate recognised by SSIP, Sunsquare is helping to reduce the burden and cost of health and safety bureaucracy in the construction industry. Essentially, it ensures that the contractors that hold the certification will not have to complete additional health and safety assessments.
