ROCKWOOL launches online U-value calculator incorporating BIM

ROCKWOOL has launched its new online U-value calculator which incorporates BIM objects for downloading.

Users are able to calculate the thermal performance of walls, floors and roofs with over 2,500 calculations available.

All calculations have been certified under the BBA/TIMSA U-value competency scheme, providing accurate and industry informed results. Users are able to tweak the results by altering the U-value or the thickness of the insulation specified.

Believed to be unique to the construction industry, users are also able to download BIM (Building Information Modelling) Objects for the whole build-up.

The use of BIM has been increasing steadily over recent years and has proved invaluable within the construction industry. Offering access to all up-to-date, technically relevant data, BIM is a highly important aspect of the planning and implementation of construction projects. The use and importance of BIM is only set to rise further as the Government makes it a mandatory procedure for all Government funded projects from April 2016.

Tim Vincent, Head of Technical at ROCKWOOL UK, comments, “ROCKWOOL’s new U-value calculator not only calculates the U-value it also creates BIM Objects for the desired construction. In addition to this, users can also download data sheets along with other associated information for the chosen product. This puts designers and specifiers in the driving seat by offering them a one stop technical shop when specifying ROCKWOOL products.”

This calculator takes the ROCKWOOL technical offering to the next level by automatically producing the BIM object for the calculated construction and incorporates the following construction. ROCKWOOL’s U-value calculator covers the following constructions:

  • Ground floors – concrete, beam and block and timber
  • Masonry cavity – full-fill and partial-fill
  • Timber frame – external wall, hybrid wall and cladding
  • Rainscreen
  • EWI – solid brick, block and metal frame
  • Pitched roof – horizontal and rafter line
  • Flat roof – metal, concrete and timber decks
  • Soffit’s
  • Intermediate floors
  • Internal wall.

Condensation risk analysis calculations can also be supplied by request to the ROCKWOOL Technical Solutions Department, quoting the relevant calculation reference.
