From April 2016, the Level 2 BIM mandate will require architects and developers working on government-funded construction projects to design and create buildings that meet and support the long term needs of their public sector clients.
Leading designer and manufacturer of sliding door hardware, P C Henderson has been providing BIM components since 2014, assisting specifiers to meet their project needs. The objects are available from its website www.pchenderson.com and bimstore www.bimstore.co.uk.
P C Henderson understands that architects and developers need to consider the efficiency and effectiveness of the buildings they create. Working at an early stage in BIM with support services such as estates and facilities management (FM) teams will help define aspects such as maintenance requirements, parts replacement details and lifetime expectancy.
Gemma Smith, Marketing Manager at P C Henderson comments: “We have been following the progression of BIM both in UK and overseas and came up with a plan early on to help all involved parties implement BIM in their workflow when specifying our products. By partnering with bimstore we have been able to ensure that the BIM components we supply take advantage of all the latest updates in technology, are of the highest quality, and meet all UK industry standards. All the teams responsible for delivering and maintaining these public sector projects can confidently share information relating to building performance and operation at an early stage, potentially saving money, time and reducing waste.
“At handover, the FM will receive a data model that contains all the information of the physical and functional characteristics of a building. Having this material at hand from the start enables clients to plan and manage their strategy, projects and assets centrally and budget accordingly. Long term, processes should be quicker, more accurate and ultimately cheaper as FMs can continually update the data throughout the life of the building.”
P C Henderson’s components are available to download from its website as well as bimstore, and contain all of the product data parameters and information needed to successfully schedule single or multiple sliding doors into the virtual model.
The P C Henderson sliding door hardware available as BIM components include, Husky 50-Bi Passing door, Husky 50-Face Single door, Husky 100-Bi Passing door, Husky 100-Face Single door and Husky 100-Pocket Single door.
P C Henderson is a member of the Door & Hardware Federation which represents all the key manufacturers and installers of industrial, commercial, pedestrian and garage doors and powered gates, as well as manufacturers of locks, building hardware and architectural ironmongery.
