Timber windows and doors by award-winning manufacturer Mumford & Wood are recognised in the BRE Green Guide to Specification as A+ rated. Designed to help specifiers make the best environmental choices when selecting materials and components for their buildings, the BRE Green Guide assesses the environmental impact of materials across their entire life cycle.
Made to the exacting standards of the British Woodworking Federation’s Wood Window Alliance (WWA) specification, Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ timber products provide the greenest, longest-lasting, low maintenance and best value fenestration available when compared to any other recognised frame material.
“As a founding member of the Wood Window Alliance it is very satisfactory that our products meet the highest BRE ranking and set a benchmark for the industry,” says Mike Harris, managing director. “It is essential that professional designers have a reliable source from which to compare materials and components and timber has all the credentials to meet a highly sustainable specification.”
In research commissioned by the WWA, carried out by the Institute for Building & Urban Design, Heriott Watt University 2013, the results of studies on Service Life Planning (SLP), Whole Life Cost (WLC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) identified that timber windows made to their standards have a life expectancy of between 56-65 years, more than twice that of PVC-U.
The study also identified the significant carbon savings that are made when a timber frame window is used in comparison with a PVC-U frame which is roughly 1.5 tonnes CO² per average home over its lifetime – the equivalent of driving more than 5,000 miles in a small family car.
Conservation™ products by Mumford & Wood are made in the UK from clear grade, sustainably sourced timber which is engineered for ultimate strength and stability. These aesthetically superior products surpass the requirements of Part L Building Regulations and provide excellent standards of thermal and acoustic performance. Conservation™ products carry the BSI Kitemark, are BSI Energy Rated and Energy Saving Trust listed.
