Products from Johnstone’s Trade have been used to restore the interior of a stunning Grade II listed church in Lancashire.
St Wulstan’s R.C. Church in Great Harwood is a thriving parish church that forms an important piece of the town’s history.
Decorators S.D. Latham were contracted to paint the entrance to the church, as well as the choir loft, and parts of the church’s ceiling.
Intricate and detailed work was required to highlight the ornate features of the church, which was built in the 1830s, and the team of three decorators picked out the mouldings on the ceiling and around the windows in striking gold to create an appropriately striking effect.
The woodwork of the church was treated with Johnstone’s Professional Undercoat, before being finished with Johnstone’s Professional Gloss, and the doors were restored using Johnstone’s Polyurethane Varnish for a tough, durable finish.
The ceiling was coated with Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt, which has been reformulated to provide a longer wet edge time, allowing the decorators more time to roller back into a wet edge and give the ceiling a more even appearance and improved performance in critical light conditions.
The church floor was also stained and varnished with rollers, but the most time-intensive part of the work was the application of Johnstone’s Smooth Metal Paint around the church windows, which was all done in gold by hand, giving these key features substantial protection against corrosion.
