LDA Design shortlisted for UCL Olympic Park campus

Independent design, environment and sustainability consultancy, LDA Design, has been shortlisted to masterplan a new 125,000 sq m campus for University College London (UCL) on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in London.

Named ‘UCL East’, it will be a second campus for one of the UK’s leading universities.

LDA Design is leading a team including Nicholas Hare Associates, BuroHappold, Momentum Transport Planning, EC Harris, Soundings and Studio Weave. It is also shortlisted in Make’s team as the landscape architect, which also includes Gehl Architects, AECOM, The Neighbourhood, David Bonnett Associates and Quod.

The 4.5 hectare UCL masterplan is backed by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and will be located south of the ArcelorMittal Orbit and Zaha Hadid-designed London Aquatics Centre.

The 50,000 sq m first phase will include a design school, ‘museum of the future’, innovation centre and experimental engineering complex. It will also include accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Selina Mason, Partner at LDA Design, said: “We are very pleased to be shortlisted for such a prestigious project with other great consultant teams. This opportunity builds on our recent masterplanning work with Cambridge University.

"LDA Design has spent many years designing and delivering the transformation of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – it really would be fantastic to be able to continue the creative journey by helping to deliver UCL’s new campus, which will not only provide facilities for collaborative research and innovation, but will also make a real and practical difference to the lives of people in the local community."

The winner will be announced in March.
