The first phase of a refurbishment project at HSBC’s Canary Wharf headquarters, 8 Canada Square, includes a moss wall designed to promote a stress-free environment for the bank’s employees.
Living Wall specialist, ANS Global, worked alongside IMS Office Fitting and Design to create ‘green’ elements in the refurbished areas, at the same time as complementing the colour scheme that will be used throughout the building once it has been completely refurbished.
Scott Anderson, Sales Director of ANS Global, explains: “The new installation is designed to create an atmosphere that promotes a stress-free environment for the employees at HSBC. Moss walls bring a strong element of nature into the built environment, and a more natural environment is generally calming. These walls can also make the space less noisy, as moss absorbs a certain amount of sound.”
ANS Global installed a three-coloured 3m² moss wall to a kitchen and breakout area on the eighth floor, as part of the architect’s design brief. Anderson continues, “We used the three varieties of moss to complement the new interior colour scheme.”
The moss walls are part of a much bigger refurbishment project which acts as a facelift for the offices, to increase staff productivity and encourage employees to meet in social areas rather than having to use formal meeting rooms.
