Housing Expo Conference Programme Announced

The organisers of Housing Expo working in conjunction with BRE and the Good Homes Alliance have announced the conference programme and technical streams for the event, which takes place in February 2013 at London’s Olympia.

The BRE programme kicks off on day 1 with a session on regulation and land use with speaker Andrew Stunnell from DCLG and planning and NPPF presented by Chris Cousin from BREEAM Communities.

The programme includes a mix of technical sessions from the GHA who will launch their final report on ‘The Performance Gap’ after monitoring homes since 2008 and learning’s from five TSB BPE projects. Other sessions include an update on the programme to monitor overheating and designs to prevent overheating; while on day two of the conference a session on ventilation and indoor air quality will be the focus of a session on ‘Healthy Homes’.

BRE’s programme will also offer a number of streamed sessions over the two days, the 6th and 7th February.

Panel debates include ‘is current legislation enabling the volume and quality of housing required? And will include John Slaughter, HBF and Sarah Davis representing CIH, plus to be confirmed speakers from the Design Council and Landscape Institute.

Other sessions will look at ‘financial sustainability’ with landlords turning to a wider range of funding mechanisms to keep up with demand are these achievable against ministers ambitious targets – the speakers will present innovative options and examples from exemplar cases.

Day 2 of the BRE programme focuses on ‘The drive to 2016 – and the push for low and zero carbon housing – experts in the field will address how existing housing stock can be approached to reduce the emissions arising from these dwellings. Speakers expected include: Neil Jefferson, NHBC, Lord Reesdale and Elizabeth Ness, Crest Nicholson. This will be followed by real examples and case studies from Kingspan, Bailey Garner – all of whom will also have stands to enable delegates to talk afterwards about the practical application and experiences faced.

The conference closes with a look at management, maintenance and refurbishment and a presentation by John O’Brien from the National refurbishment Centre and panel discussion on the whether asset management can deliver comfort and carbon savings.
