Marley is helping specifiers achieve standout roof designs with its premium handmade clay roof tiles from the Canterbury range.
Launched earlier this year, Marley’s handmade clay plain tiles are fast becoming the first choice for architects looking to raise the bar on roof design and achieve a high quality finish.
The tiles are available in three colours including Loxleigh, which boasts an antique appearance due to its semi-sanded finish in red and grey shades and Burford, a rich red-brown tone in a fully sanded texture. Meanwhile, the Chailey offers a vibrant orange tone and can be used on the main roof or as a contrast tile for vertical tiling. The range is proving particularly popular for quality housing developments and sensitive refurbishments.
Sarah Jackson, Marketing Product Manager at Marley, comments: “With their authentic handmade finish and traditional colour options, it’s no surprise that the Canterbury clay plain tile range is fast becoming the go-to choice for specifiers and it’s great to see something of a resurgence in the use of handmade tiles. The Canterbury range has been developed to meet the growing needs of today’s architects who are often tasked with achieving distinguished properties. In many cases, planners will only accept genuine handmade clay plain tiles for heritage and conservation projects.”
The authentic blend of colours enables specifiers to mix all three tiles on the roof to create their own unique design or replicate a patchwork of colour often seen on traditional roofs in Suffolk, Sussex and Kent. Canterbury clay plain tiles are also available with a complementary range of traditional handmade fittings and decorative accessories to achieve the perfect finish.
Marley's natural handmade clay plain tiles are created by skilled craftsmen at its clay facility in Staffordshire, using the same time-honoured methods that have been used for hundreds of years. It is this handmaking process used to create the range that brings random undulations and variations that gives each tile its unique appearance and character.
All Canterbury handmade clay plain tiles are made from Etruria Marl, which is widely accepted as the finest clay for strength and durability.
Sarah Jackson continues: “We’re delighted that our Canterbury handmade range is meeting growing demand. By bringing back the traditional skills and craftsmanship to our clay facility in Staffordshire, we’ve been able to combine authentic production methods that are true-to-tradition with modern firing techniques, to create beautiful clay tiles that are highly durable.”
The Canterbury range of clay plain tiles is manufactured at Marley’s Keele factory, which specialises in clay plain tile production. Combining the knowledge and experience gained from handmaking the original Canterbury collection, the site is ideally suited to use the skills learnt to produce the new range of premium Canterbury handmade clay tiles.
