Whist the Green Deal is still due to launch next week, finance plans for the scheme have been delayed. The initiative's financial mechanism will not be in place until 28 January 2013.
Commenting on the delay, Energy Minister Ed Davy said: “Most aspects of the Green Deal will start on 1 October, but the finance plans can only be signed from 28th January next year. Under the Green Deal legislation, you have to enter the plan before the work is done.”
Homeowners interested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes will be able to have their property assessed as of 1 October. Retrofits will not go ahead until after 28 January next year, when the finance mechanism will be in place.
