Contract interiors specialist, Gradus, has supplied Trans-Edge heavy-duty stair edgings at the National Cycling Centre Manchester.
The National Cycling Centre Manchester, located in Sports City, is Britain’s first indoor cycling track and has become one of the world’s fastest board tracks. Regular users of the track include members of the successful GB track team, such as Sir Chris Hoy and Laura Trott, as well as local schoolchildren and cycling enthusiasts.
The track is open seven days a week and is one of the busiest in the world, so it is fundamental that the safety of visitors is paramount. Kee Builders UK Ltd installed Gradus’ TEXN51 Trans-Edge heavy-duty stair edgings on the exterior stairs leading up to the main entrance of the cycling centre, providing a hardwearing solution to help reduce the risk of slips and trips.
Developed in line with guidelines in BS 8300:2009+A1: 2010 and Approved Document M (ADM) of the Building Regulations 2010, the products are designed to meet increased demand for reducing the risk of accidents on exterior stairs, such as those at the cycling centre, or heavily trafficked internal stairways close to entrances and access points.
Independently tested for slip-resistance by the Health & Safety Laboratory, the stair edgings offer a low risk of slip in both wet and dry conditions. They have also performed well under accelerated wear and UV weathering tests and have been tested for chemical resistance to ISO175 (SATRA).
The heavy-duty aluminium stair edgings were provided with a Charcoal black insert, providing slip resistance and visual contrast with the adjacent floor finish.
