GRG – Glass Reinforced Gypsum, column casings are a modern alternative to traditional methods of providing an aesthetic casing around unsightly structural columns.
Our GRG casings are manufactured in a modern production facility in Leeds using a range of hard casting plasters hand laminated with multi layers of glass fibre matt for reinforcement, resulting in casings giving a perfectly smooth and highly durable surface finish - free from trowel marks usually associated with hand finished plasterwork. The casings are class O non-combustible and although will withstand a degree of humidity, should essentially be designed for internal use only.
Advantages of using GRG casings for the Main Contractor are in the off-site manufacture of the casts meaning the site fixing operation is much faster and involves just the one trade instead of a team erecting the framework and then another team plastering the surface.
Advantages of using GRG casings to the Designer are in the quality and consistency of finish achievable and the range of bespoke designs and details available by specifying Ryedale Interiors GRG casings. The GRG casings are perfectly smooth and very durable only requiring painting on site.
Where can they be used - GRG casings are suitable for use in a wide range of situations including commercial office spaces, Hotels, reception areas and retail interiors in both refurbishment and new build situations, where unsightly structural columns - usually with attached services, need to be concealed.
Our standard range of circular GRG column casings ranges from 200 to 1200mm in diameter, with a range of head and base details available to incorporate into the casings. The casings are generally supplied in two halves with a vertical rebated joint detail for site filling and sanding. The two halves are screw fixed to a basic lightweight framework fixed onto the existing column. We can deliver casings anywhere in the UK.
Any bespoke design can be designed and manufactured to order – elliptical casings, tapering casings, rebated casings, square or rectangular casings – our skilled craftsmen can produce any shape or profile incorporating any head or base detail – limited only by the imagination of the designer.
