Fife Council invests in energy efficient ventilation units

Fife Council in Scotland has specified EnviroVent’s heatSava Single Room Heat Recovery Units for 67 homes in order to improve indoor air quality and enhance energy efficiency.

The Council, which has had EnviroVent’s Filterless Extract Fans installed in thousands of its properties over the past 10 years, recognised that heatSava would help reduce issues with condensation and mould growth.

Keith Brown, Team Manager Asset Management at Fife Council, said: “Following our long term relationship with EnviroVent and the installation of Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) units and thousands of Filterless Fans over the years, we decided to specify EnviroVent’s heatSava to enhance the energy efficiency of these homes. As a result, the majority of tenants have noticed a reduction in their condensation levels in their kitchens and bathrooms – the main problem areas.”

Rory Percival, Technical Manager at EnviroVent, said: “As some of the heatSavas were installed in remote areas of the region that do not have connection to the gas network, it was vitally important that an energy efficient method of ventilation was installed to minimise running costs and fuel consumption.  heatSava is a great solution for Fife Council and their tenants will reap the benefits in terms of much better indoor air quality and fewer issues with mould growth, due to better ventilation.”

The heatSava is ideal for retrofitting in social housing and rented properties. The innovative unit recovers up to 75% of heat that would normally be lost on extraction whilst providing continuous all-year-round good indoor air quality, resulting in energy and cost savings.

The heatSava runs continuously 24 hours a day on a low background trickle rate to provide constant all year round good indoor air quality, controlling humidity levels and reducing condensation. The unit has been engineered with the unique Intellitrac® controls which operate automatically, reacting to increases in humidity levels by altering the motor speed in direct proportion. Once humidity falls, the airflow rate reduces to save energy.

Available in two sizes, 100mm to suit bathrooms (low voltage version optional) and WCs and 150mm for kitchens and utility rooms, the unit is quick and easy to fit onto either an existing extractor fan wall sleeve or a new wall.
