Daikin UK welcomes the news that the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is holding a series of free-to-attend heat pump training roadshows, specifically aimed at helping social housing providers get to grips with the new standards for renewable heat pump installations.
These one-day events are specifically designed for asset management, sustainability, housing and energy staff within social housing providers. Training will be interactive, helping attendees to get to grips with the detail of specifications, the costs and benefits of heat pumps, maintenance, resident training, contracts and commissioning.
DECC has worked closely with the heat pump industry to develop the new standards and has already held roadshows to train heat pump installers in Autumn last year. DECC is now holding workshops specifically aimed at social housing providers, as this group represents a major potential market for this technology.
“Renewable heat technologies deliver high levels of energy efficiency as long as they are designed and installed properly, by highly qualified, reputable engineers, to the highest standards,” said Stuart Gadsden, Product Specialist - Heating and Renewables at Daikin UK.
“We whole-heartedly support this initiative by DECC and urge social housing providers to attend. We are committed to ensuring that the next generation of engineers has the specialist skills and practical experience needed to install and maintain renewable heating systems. This will be crucial if the industry is to meet the Government’s 4th Carbon Budget’s target of 600,000 domestic heat pumps being installed by 2020 and 6.8 million by 2030.
“But it is also vital that clients understand what to look for when choosing a system and an installer. So these roadshows are extremely welcome.”
The latest revision to the MCS Microgeneration Installation Standard for heat pumps, MIS 3005 v3.1a, was launched in April. Daikin UK is firmly behind MCS and the latest revision, which is designed to raise design and installation standards. MCS accreditation is also needed to take full advantage of the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme and is likely to be a requirement of the Renewable Heat Incentive when it is introduced next year.
