For almost 40 years the Construction Manager of the Year Awards, run by the Chartered Institute of Building, has recognised the UK’s finest and most talented construction managers.
Many of whom have gone on to build Britain’s greatest buildings, like Senedd the National Assembly Building for Wales, The London Olympics 2012 and The Shard in London.
At this year’s 2015 finals 69 construction managers face off against each other as they bid to join construction’s hall of fame. They represent the successful construction management of a combined £2.3 billion worth of UK building assets.
Due to the exceptionally high standards of the judging process, project managers who reach the CMYA finals in the UK, are invited to become Chartered Construction Managers without undergoing the CIOB’s Professional Review, subject to recommendation by the judges.
Saleem Akram, director at the CIOB said; “The value of professional construction managers is felt well beyond the construction site. They not only produce outstanding buildings but their work influences the way we live our lives and how we interact with the environment around us.
“Our congratulations go to the finalists who in reaching the final have achieved something very special that will enhance their careers. They have all proved themselves more than equal to a wide range of challenges, combining resourceful and creative application of building technology with inspiring project and team management and top communication skills.
“It is very pleasing to see the less well-known companies in construction putting their best people forward and challenging some of the UK’s biggest brands. Talent exists throughout the industry and CMYA recognises those who are achieving exceptional work no matter where they operate.”
The award has seen some significant changes in the years that the CIOB has been recognising and celebrating management excellence across the construction industry. Effective public private partnerships, the use of digital technologies and successful solutions to environmental challenges are just a few of them.
There are ten categories at CMYA 2015 that range from ‘Residential Projects under 6 Storeys’ to ‘New Build and Refurbishment over £60million’. The CIOB would like to thank this year’s sponsors for their support in recognising the UK’s finest construction managers. The sponsors are: - Asta Powerproject, Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Construction Manager Magazine, Hays Construction, IHS and St James’ Place Wealth Management.
Winners and medallists will be announced on 8 October 2015 at a prestigious awards dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. To book your place amongst the best construction talent in the UK and to see a full list of the finalists go to www.cmya.co.uk.
