Yorkon extends warranty for its off-site building system to 30 years

Following the launch of its new off-site building system, Yorkon has extended the structural warranty protection for its buildings to 30 years, which is unmatched by site-based construction methods.

This comprehensive warranty is for the structural and load-bearing elements of a Yorkon building, including the external walls, floors, roofs and columns.  It means that in the unlikely event of a structural failure in a 30-year period, Yorkon would rectify it.

Yorkon buildings also have the benefit of a five-year product warranty for even greater peace of mind.  This covers the external fabric of a building, encompassing the steel structure, floor, walls, roof panels, external windows and doors or any part of the external fabric that contributes to the building’s function as a structurally sound, insulated unit.

Both of these warranties are now supplied as standard for all Yorkon buildings and give customers further assurance of the quality, strength and long-term performance of this fast and sustainable method of construction.

Commenting on the extension to its warranty package, Simon Ambler, Director of Yorkon, said, “Companies across the industry claim to offer quality products and services, but we wanted to go a step further by giving our customers even greater peace of mind.  We believe our extended warranty commitment will set a benchmark across the construction sector, helping to raise standards, and is further evidence of our confidence in our building system and in the inherent performance and durability of our construction solutions.”

The new Yorkon steel-framed building system offers the widest range of modules and configurations currently available from any off-site manufacturer in the UK – giving architects, contractors and construction clients the flexibility to meet almost any building footprint or design.

Other innovations for the new building system include:

  • Columns that are no longer visible either internally or externally, for a seamless façade that can be specified with or without cladding
  • The option of using larger but fewer modules to reduce cranage, transport costs and site work.
  • Two module width options of 3m and 3.75m; module lengths from 6m to 18.75m; three height options for single-storey buildings, and seven different heights for ground and intermediate floors on multi-storey schemes to facilitate linking to existing traditionally-constructed buildings
  • All connections between modules will now be carried out from inside the building – which is more efficient, quicker and safer on site
  • The option of angled corners for further architectural variety
  • A new wall construction for improved insulation and acoustic performance, and an even wider choice of window and fenestration options
  • A new insulation production system to further improve quality and consistency.

Yorkon’s approach to off-site construction delivers buildings of the highest standards, which often exceed Building Regulations requirements.  A recent project for Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, for example, exceeded Building Regulations Part L 2010 by 90 per cent in independent tests for air permeability, without any adaptation to the standard Yorkon steel-framed building system.

By moving construction off site and into a controlled factory environment, Yorkon delivers high quality buildings for a wide range of applications, on time and on budget, with unrivalled design flexibility and less disruption.  Its modular solutions can also reduce programme times by up to 50 per cent, improve site safety and are highly sustainable with reduced material waste, fewer vehicle movements and enhanced thermal efficiency for lower running costs.
