The winners of the prestigious Environment and Energy Awards 2011 - seen as one of the highest accolades for sustainability in the corporate sector – have been announced, in a year notable for both the record number and the high standard of entries.
There were 13 categories with the winners and highly commended entries as follows:

o Highly commended: Louise Hall, ASDA and Mervyn Bowden, Marks & Spencer
o Winner: Birmingham Energy Savers
o Highly commended: Interserve Project Services and Severn Trent Water
o Winner: Pudsey Diamond Engineering Ltd
o Winner: Best Western Moor Hall Hotel & Spa
o Highly commended: Camfil Ltd
o Winner: Beech Properties
o Winner: Ecotricity
o Winner: Commercial
o Highly commended: Interserve
o Winner: Karen Taylor, Hampshire Cosmetics Ltd
o Highly commended: Karen Booth, Northern Rail
o Winner: Daikin UK
o Winner: Office Depot
o Winner: Queen’s University in Belfast
o Highly commended: MAVA
o Winner: Northern Rail
o Highly commended: East Midlands Airport
o Winner: Sheffield City Council
The awards were announced during Sustainabilitylive! 2011, on Tuesday 24th May, at a special black tie evening dinner held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, hosted by Steve Parry, the Olympic medallist and GB swimming team captain.
The 2011 awards were sponsored by ESTA, The Energy Institute, NQA, Utility Week, The Energy Brokers and The University of Exeter Business School – One Planet MBA; and CP Sport held a raffle and silent auction on the night.
Donna Bushell, event director for Sustainabilitylive!, says: “The standard of entries was so high this year that in many cases, choosing the winner was almost impossible. As a result, the judges decided that they had to give highly commended awards in many categories.
“Unquestionably, it shows that even when economic conditions have been, and continue to be, very tough companies are continuing to invest in improving sustainability. It is extremely encouraging.”
