As part of the company’s commitment to the highest industry standards, Wienerberger, the leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping innovations, has revealed details of its adherence to specific targets in the British Ceramic Confederation Health and Safety Pledge.
The latest figures have shown Wienerberger to be exceeding 2012 reduction targets for injury occurrence and injury absence by 52% in both areas.
Initiated in 2000 in response to UK Government Initiatives, the voluntary agreement aims to uphold and improve best practice and safety performance of companies in the ceramic industry. By 2005 Wienerberger had met all of the first phase targets, and since 2011 has been represented on the Pledge Monitoring Board.
Over the last six years, Phase 2 and Phase 3 targets have been implemented. The targets specify a 30% reduction in accident, injury and (injury caused) absence rates based on a 2006 benchmark. Having exceeded both injury and absence rate targets, Wienerberger has also achieved an accident rate reduction of 29%.
John Davies, Group Health and Safety Manager at Wienerberger, commented: “We’re absolutely committed to ensuring that our working practices are as safe as they can possibly be, and this pledge is a great way to measure our progress.
"We are really pleased with our results; to be just 0.5% from exceeding all Phase 2 and 3 targets is a fine result and a good indication of our success in prioritising industry safety best practice. That said, by the end of 2013 we intend to have improved even further, and be both leading and setting industry standards.”
