One of the largest basketball arenas in Lithuania has been fitted with eight Fire Fighting Enterprises Fireray end-to-end optical beam smoke detectors.
Using infrared beams, they detect smoke over much larger areas than traditional fire detection devices, making them perfectly suited for large indoor spaces.
Basketball is by far the most popular sport in Lithuania, sometimes described as the ‘second religion’.
An optical beam smoke detector transmits a beam of invisible infrared light across the building space to be protected, and is usually wall-mounted at near-ceiling level. A receiver detects and measures this light, and can recognise smoke interference anywhere along the beam path, triggering the alarm signal when the pre-determined threshold is reached.
The receiver can be either situated directly on the opposite wall to the transmitter, or, more commonly, a reflective prism bounces the beam back to a single, combined transceiver unit.
In addition to sports arenas, typical applications for FFE’s beam detectors include:
Fire Fighting Enterprises is at the forefront of beam-type optical smoke detection technology, leading the market in providing fire extinguishers for aviation use, and also producing a range of vibration switches for industrial applications. Fire Fighting Enterprises is a Halma Company.
