Washroom Washroom reaches new heights

Leading washroom manufacturer Washroom Washroom has shown it has a head for heights having recently completed work installing new washroom facilities in The View from The Shard, the visitor attraction at London’s tallest building.

With two viewing galleries on levels 69 and 72, The View from The Shard is almost twice as high as any other vantage point in London offering breathtaking views of the city.

As part of the recent fit-out project, overseen by Paragon with Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects behind the design, Washroom was tasked with installing new washroom areas on level one specifically for visitors to the attraction.

It was essential for the visitor washrooms to reflect the innovative nature of the attraction as well as creating a striking impression on visitors. With this in mind, Washroom used colour, with its Alto range of cubicles and Concerto integrated duct panel system both manufactured in the same high gloss red, which together with the black, white and grey colour scheme, create a wholly unique space.

Integral to the design was the installation of new, effortlessly stylish, Airblade Taps, designed by renowned British engineering group Dyson. The new product, which combines hot and cold water outlets with a high speed hand dryer all in one unit, also features infrared motion sensors for hygienic use.

For the vanities, Washroom specified bespoke Corian units, which are highly durable. Corian can be cut to any shape and joined with inconspicuous seams to produce a perfectly neat and unified appearance, adding to the sleek, clean look of the washrooms.

Simon Hands, Project Director, Paragon (A Division of Interserve Construction) commented: “We wanted the washrooms to reflect the eye-catching nature of the design of the building by creating a wholly unique, bespoke space. We’re thrilled with the finished result - the new washrooms look stunning and are sure to make a lasting impression on visitors to the View from the Shard.”

Trevor Bowers, Managing Director of Washroom Washroom said: “It was a real joy to be able to work on the visitor attraction at such an iconic building. The combination of the high gloss red laminate and innovative new Dyson Airblade Taps, helps to create a unique space for visitors. This project demonstrates Washroom is more than capable of creating wholly bespoke designs taking into account the overall design of the space at the same time.”
