As part of the ‘Buildup’ short course programme, the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Westminster is offering a short course to applicants for the Architects Registration Board (ARB) Part 1 and Part 2 Prescribed Examinations. The University will run the course twice a year, subject to demand, and is the only course of its kind currently being offered in the UK.
The course will enable young professionals with appropriate overseas architectural qualifications to prepare effectively for the ARB examinations. The course is spread over a number of weeks and will explain the ARB examination process, how to present your portfolio in order to meet the ARB/RIBA Criteria – including guidance on any additional work that may be required, in particular in relation to architectural practice and management – and how to prepare for the final interview.
Stephen Brookhouse, who is leading the team delivering the new course, and who also runs the University of Westminster’s RIBA Part 3 course, said: ‘I trialled the idea of a short course with a small group last year – including students who had already been through the process and failed. From this experience I decided to design a short course that we could offer twice a year to suitably qualified professionals who have appropriate overseas qualifications and want to practise in the UK.
‘It is vital that applicants approach the process with a full understanding of what is required and how to meet the ARB’s requirements. The course will be delivered to small groups through a mixture of seminars and group work. We want to give applicants the very best opportunity of passing Parts 1 and 2 so that they can then progress to taking Part 3 and register as architects in the UK.’
The University is also offering versions of its Part 3 modules in English Law and Architectural Project Management as short courses as part of the ‘Buildup’ programme.
