Traditional style combines with modern performance

Composite timber windows from Black Millwork have been specified for a leading development of high quality homes built by Brian Sabberton Ltd thanks to their winning combination of classic aesthetics and modern technology.

The eight homes at Clearview Barnby, in Suffolk, have been designed in a traditional red brick style and the Andersen 400 Series Sliding Sash windows with vertical dividing bar and Side Hung Casement windows were chosen to complement the classic lines of the properties.

Most importantly, the homes have been constructed to combine the visual appeal of period architecture with the practical benefits of new build properties, delivering excellent thermal performance and low maintenance requirements. Offering impressive energy efficiency performance, the Andersen 400 Series windows supplied by Black Millwork perfectly matched this condition.

Benefiting from 90% argon filled glass, which reduces the loss of heat by slowing convection within the glass, as well as Low-E (low emissivity) glass coating, the windows can achieve U-values of 1.4 W/m2K. In addition, the windows feature a Perma-Shield exterior that extends the life of product and reduces the need for routine painting and maintenance.

Peter Sabberton, Managing Director at Brian Sabberton Ltd, commented: “We have used Andersen windows from Black Millwork for many years. They are great windows that combine the warm feeling, traditional detailing and slim profiles of timber frames, with the low maintenance of a Perma-Shield exterior.

“We know from experience that they are easy to incorporate into a conventional brick construction and once fitted, they always operate well. They are well thought out, right down to the film that is applied to the glass during manufacture, which can be left in place until the plastering is completed and then peeled away to reveal perfectly clean windows. We are very happy with the windows and will undoubtedly use them again on future projects.”
