Contractor wins second hotel project for client in Northern Quarter
John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, has won a contract to build a new Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Manchester‘s City Centre. The win follows Sisk’s completion in September 2008 of the £15m refurbishment of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham for the same client.
The £9.5m 9 storey hotel will comprise 192 bedrooms, taking a 60 week building programme to complete.

“Centre Island was impressed with our work on the Crowne Plaza Hotel and asked us to take on the project for their new Holiday Inn Express. We firmly believe in delivering solutions for our clients over the long term and are obviously delighted to be back working with them again.”
A new public square will also form part of the works package, which will be overlooked by the new development. The scheme is situated in the vibrant Northern Quarter of Manchester and is part of the Smithfield regeneration area, formerly the site of the wholesale food markets that has seen significant investment in recent years.
The structure will feature a precast re-finished concrete frame over transfer slab, with a variety of external façade finishes. Each of the rooms will also be fitted out with pre-fabricated bathroom pods.

Sisk successfully delivered the £15m 312 bed Crowne Plaza hotel refurbishment in Birmingham, for the same client supporting Sisk’s belief in fostering long-term relationships with its clients.
