SIG Interiors - formerly CPD and part of leading European construction supplies firm SIG plc - has partnered with Armstrong World Industries to drive and expand the scope of its two successful ceiling tile recycling initiatives.
Specifically targeting refurbishment projects, market leader Armstrong’s End of Life scheme enables project teams to sustainably dispose of suspended ceiling products when new tiles are being installed. A second initiative, the Off-Cut Scheme, enables new build ceiling contractors to recycle ‘off-cuts’ by providing bags to collect the material, which can then be sent for recycling.
Under the new partnership, SIG Interiors will now handle the collection and recycling of these materials, driving significant cost and time saving efficiencies for onsite project teams. Its national network of storage facilities and fleet of mechanical offload vehicles, means that SIG Interiors’ involvement will enable Armstrong to significantly increase the scope of both initiatives to benefit more projects.
Dave Carlson, Category Manager at SIG Interiors said: “Recycling is a core part of most business strategies but, due to the volume of waste created by most projects, often the quickest solution for getting it offsite is to send it to landfill. With increases in landfill tax the Armstrong initiatives take the cost and complexity out of managing waste, whilst significantly reducing a project’s environmental impact.”
Jeremy Sumeray, Senior Segment Manager at Armstrong adds: “The cost savings and environmental benefits are clear and we encourage contractors to take advantage of our partnership with SIG Interiors to increase the volume of ceiling tiles that are recycled.”
SIG Interiors has produced a recycling guide which, along with other information, can be viewed on its dedicated website for suspended ceiling products and accessories – www.ceilings.co.uk.
Ceiling tile recycling with SIG Interiors and Armstrong can save huge amounts of waste and energy; just 10,000m² of recycled tiles equates to a saving of 50 tonnes of raw materials, and the energy saved manufacturing new ceiling tiles could power a home for over six years.
