Sidey – one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and installers of energy efficient doors, windows and curtain walling systems – has had Business Minister Mark Prisk run the rule over the company’s innovative SolarthermPlus range of products, which were previewed at a specially convened exhibition designed to demonstrate excellence in British innovation, design, engineering and manufacturing.
The company’s SolarthermPlus range of windows and doorsets, all of which are designed, extruded and fabricated in the UK, deliver u-values down to 0.7 whilst being available on very short lead-times. Another of Sidey's patented innovations is KitFix® , which enables windows and doors to be factory fitted into timber frame and structurally insulated panel systems while the glass is protected with Scratchgard® – the company’s glass protection system. All Sidey's innovations offer significant opportunities to inexpensively enhance building performance and meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6; as well as deliver ‘retrofit for the future’ benefits.
All systems are available now, and will be rolled out into the marketplace in a continuous basis throughout 2011.
Part of a rolling programme, and organised by the Construction Products Association (CPA), the themed exhibition highlighted the strength of the UK construction products industry and was staged at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in London. Other UK products on show included including insulation products, boilers and heating elements.
The UK Construction Products sector represents, collectively, 20% of goods manufactured in this country and with an annual output of more than £50 billion, 10% of which is exported.
Business Minister Mark Prisk said: “The construction products industry is vital to the UK economy employing around half a million people. The Budget demonstrated the Government’s commitment to promoting UK construction growth through action on enterprise zones, regulation, and fundamental reforms to the planning system. I am extremely grateful to the Construction Products Association and the companies who have contributed exhibits to this event.”
Steve Hardy, Sidey’s Commercial Sales Director, says of the company’s involvement at the BIS exhibition: “Sidey has always tried to drive innovation and improved energy performance through its products, and we were obviously delighted to be invited to participate in this showcase event. The performance and design values of our SolarthermPlus systems are entirely consistent with the Government’s striving to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency in the built environment – and we look forward to taking them to wider audience from hereon”.
Other construction products featured at the exhibition included the Baxi Eco Gen: a combined Micro CHP (combined heat and power system) able to generate useable electricity as well as heat for the home; and Wavin's Thermoboard Low Build –a thin underfloor heating system which is more energy efficient than traditional radiators and also ideal for retrofit.
