With only two weeks left until the closing of applications for its highly prestigious awards ceremony, Construction Youth Trust is encouraging young people to step forward and put themselves forward for an award that could change their lives.
The scheme is intended to promote the construction industry to young people of all social backgrounds with the aim of increasing the number and diversity of entrants into the sector.
Now in its third year, the awards scheme is an opportunity for exceptional young professionals to be commended and celebrated for their achievements. The finalists will be judged by a prestigious panel of experts through a rigorous process of presentations and interviews. Winners will receive cash prizes and a unique development opportunity with a one year mentoring programme.
The 2013 awards scheme saw 3 out of the 4 categories won by women, with 3 more women also highly commended. All 4 winners have all begun their mentoring sessions. Architecture winner Apeksha Gupta from BRE Wales & South West commented "Mentoring with AECOM has been a breath of fresh air. I have briefed my mentor about the work I have doing with BRE and the status of my PHD and he has been extremely supportive."
For the 2014 awards scheme, the judges are particularly looking for young people who have not only achieved excellence in their careers so far but may have had to overcome challenges to get there. They are also looking for individuals who have gone the extra mile to promote construction as a career or helped others in the wider community.
Entries are now being accepted and must be submitted to Construction Youth Trust by December 9 2013.
